(She, Her)

Profile

Maya Casilda Acevedo (she/her) was born on Lenape territory in New York to a Mexican mother and a Puerto Rican father. A self-described mutt of the New World, she has a profound love for the Americas. Acutely aware of the interconnectivity of all life, she is deeply troubled by the utterly destructive impacts of the Western patriarchal ontology that finds humans separate from the Earth. Maya Casilda graduated with a BA from Vassar College, where she focused on Native American Studies and Environmental Studies, and is currently a Masters candidate in Gender, Race, Sexuality, and Social Justice at UBC.
