On November 2, 2022, Allard Law and Sauder alumni got together for a fascinating evening of personal stories focused on building community and creating momentum for change.

Anti-Racism and the Law Initiative: Rehearsals for Living
In March 2022, the Anti-Racism and the Law Initiative at Allard Law hosted Robyn Maynard and Leanne Betasamosake Simpson, two of Canada’s foremost anti-racist feminist thinkers, to discuss their new book, Rehearsals for Living.
Written soon after the pandemic began in 2020, Rehearsals for Living is a series of letters written between Maynard and Simpson that explores abolitionist and anti-colonial possibilities during a time of compounding crises: a global pandemic, the climate emergency, extractive capitalism and structural racism. The book became a national bestseller and a finalist for the Governor General's Literary Award for non-fiction. Watch their discussion, moderated by Allard Law professor Dr. Sara Ghebremusse.
International Anti-Corruption Court: An Idea Whose Time Has Come?
While numerous initiatives have been undertaken over the years to root out corruption, there is scant evidence that such crimes have in fact been curtailed. Has the time come to approach the problem in a different way?

Implementing the Cullen Commission Recommendations to Improve Private Sector Self-regulation to Combat Money Laundering
In September, the Anti-Corruption Law Program launched a four-part webinar series exploring the recommendations arising from the Report of the Commission of Inquiry into Money Laundering in British Columbia (Cullen Commission Report). Released in June 2022, the 1,800-page Cullen Commission Report represents a watershed moment for anti-corruption law reform efforts in Canada.
In the first session, hear from expert panelists Don Avison, David Avren, Christine Duhaime, Dr. Peter German, KC and Brock Martland, KC as they explain why particular sectors are more susceptible to money laundering and look at proposed regulatory reform measures.

Green Rights and Warrior Lawyers Virtual Academy and Inspirathon
The Green Rights & Warrior Lawyers Virtual Academy and Inspirathon brought together nine courageous “Warrior Lawyers” from around the world to share their stories of advancing “Green Rights” through (or sometimes despite) the law. Hear from experts including Allard Law alum Terri-Lynn Williams-Davidson, Māori legal scholar Jacinta Ruru, and Normandy Chair for Peace Tony Oposa.
