Mooters for the 2019 Peter Burns Mock Trial Competition.
Competitive mooting has long served as a popular and rewarding law school experience for many students. They offer students an exceptional opportunity to develop advocacy skills and present a case before experienced judges.
The Allard School of Law recently hosted it’s annual Peter Burns Mock Trial Competition, where students pair up to act as counsel in a mock trial. Two practicing lawyers and a judge coach each pair of students during practice sessions held on one evening a week in the Hornby Street courthouse in downtown.
The winners of this year's competition were Emily Adams and Courtney Gibbons, and the alternate winners were Emma Moore and Gabriella Schauber. The two winning students will go on to represent the Allard School of Law in the MacIntyre Cup (the Western Canada Moot Competition) next term. The top two teams at the Western Canada Moot will then compete in the Sopinka Cup (the National Trial Moot Competition) in Ottawa. Individual award winners at the Competition were Mu Xin for best cross-examination and Emily Adams for best jury address.
