Inequality: Law as Problem? Law as Solution?

Nov 19, 2015

On November 19, 2015, Peter A. Allard School of Law faculty members joined Nobel prize-winning economist Dr. Joseph Stiglitz for a panel discussion about his ground-breaking work on inequality as it relates to global supply chains and human rights, tax policy, financial innovation and the power to constitute and remedy inequality.

Dr. Joseph Stiglitz is Nobel laureate in economics and a Professor at Columbia University. He is the former senior vice president and chief economist of the World Bank and author of several books, the most recent being the best seller, The Great Divide: Unequal Societies and What We Can Do About Them (2015). Dr. Stiglitz is the inaugural visitor as part of The Lind Initiative in US Studies at UBC, which seeks to inspire students to become cultural, business, political and thought leaders and to ignite students’ critical and creative thinking to become active and informed global leaders. The Lind Initiative is made possible by a gift from Philip Lind, Vice-Chairman of Rogers Communications Inc., with the goal of strengthening relationships and building understanding between Canada and the US.

Hosted by The Centre for Business Law, the panel included Allard School of Law Professors Natasha Affolder, Joel Bakan, David Duff, Cristie Ford and Galit Sarfaty.
