Overlapping Claims, Oral History and Indigenous language: Personal Reflections on a Rights and Title Trial

Aaron Wilson will share his personal reflections as a member of the legal team representing his own community of Musqueam in the Cowichan Tribes et al trial, the longest trial in Canadian history.

Aaron Wilson

Aaron Wilson is a member of the Musqueam Indian Band. Within a year of being called to the bar, Aaron had the opportunity to serve his community as General Council for the Musqueam Indian Band from 2015-2019. He brings his unique experience and perspective to legal practice with deep respect and appreciation of Indigenous legal orders. Drawing inspiration from historic court cases and the achievements of his fellow band members, Aaron views the law as one means of ensuring that Indigenous communities’ laws, rights, title, and traditional governance are respected and upheld. Aaron was recognized as a 2024 Lexpert Rising Star, which honours Canada’s leading lawyers under 40 who have made outstanding contributions to their field, the legal profession, and the wider community.
