Criminal Law Week: BCPS Info Session

Event Description

There are approximately 450 lawyers appearing in courtrooms daily throughout the province prosecuting criminal cases – robberies, break and enters, dangerous driving, assaults, and murders. A career with the BC Prosecution Service provides you the opportunity to work on these cases. Prosecutors work together and decide whether to charge someone with a criminal offence, whether to seek their detention pending their trial, what witnesses to call at the trial, how to instruct a jury on the evidence, what a fit sentence should be, and argue appeals of these cases.

Join three senior prosecutors as they share their experiences with the BC Prosecution Service. You will hear amongst other things what it is like to: run a busy trial court, appear in bail court, lead evidence in Supreme Court, and argue cases in the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. Throughout this, Crown Counsel work with victims, police officers, experts and other members of the public. Not only is working on these cases interesting, but BC prosecutors play an important role in public safety and the proper administration of justice.

Come out and hear more about this rewarding work.
